Growing up I spent a lot of time with my uncle who was paralyzed from the waist down.
Seeing him go through the struggle of finding good aides that had his best interest at heart
made me realize that their aren’t that many of them out there. When he passed away in 2008, I
told myself that I was going to make a difference.
Through school I was able to volunteer at one of the local nursing homes. We were very
limited on what we were allowed to do, but it was enough for me to realize this is my calling. A
few months after my 18th birthday, I completed the training to become a personal care aide and
from there a certified nursing assistant.
I’ve been an aide for almost 3 years now and I’m so grateful that this is the path that I chose.
There is no better feeling than knowing that you’re making a positive impact in someone’s life.
Everyday that I go into work I’m faced with new and meaningful experiences that I wouldn’t
trade for the world. Just knowing that I’m giving my clients the patience, respect and care that
they deserve is truly remarkable.
I wish to further my career in healthcare by becoming a nurse practitioner and opening my own
home care agency.
